Supporting the bereaved: November is a time when we stand in solidarity with all who are bereaved and grieving the death of someone they loved. We pray for those who are broken hearted, those experiencing loneliness or emptiness, those for whom the joy has gone out of life. May the presence of Jesus, who wept with Martha and Mary on the death of their brother Lazarus, comfort those who most need it at this time. May Mary, the mother of Jesus, who stood at the foot of the cross as Jesus died for us all, give us strength in moments of sadness and grief whenever we mourn for those who have departed this earthly life and made their home with God. GLORACH BINGO: After donning the glitzy red jacket and matching shoes on stage with the Newcastlewest Musical Society over the weekend, Tom Madigan was back to wearing more prosaic clothes on Sunday as he took up the number-calling mantle at our drive in Bingo on Sunday. His voice wasn’t affected by his vocal exploits over three nights, and with the dry, cold weather present on the day, a large crowd ensued. Hopefully our charmed relationship with the climate will continue into December, see ye all next Sunday at the GAA grounds at the starting time of 1.30 pm.

COMMUNITY ALERT: I’m re posting this again just to remind people that you could not be half careful enough: A friend of mine advertised an item on Done Deal and within 5 minutes received a message on WhatsAp from a "Mary Donovan." She asked if she could arrange for AnPost courier delivery and said I would receive money before sending. I said OK and she sent me a link, which appeared to be An Post but wanted my card details. Got son to check site – he said malware. Told "Mary" I was not comfortable with giving card details and could we do PayPal. No response! The name "Mary Donovan," and the lovely avatar of a mother and daughter had both disappeared from the WhatsAp personal info, leaving only the number, which I rang….no reply. So beware folks! Baddies lurking in the undergrowth. This week the Gardai once again received a number of reports of online scams resulting in the loss of savings. Please, please ignore and delete texts containing links purporting to be from the Bank of Ireland. The bank will never ask for personal details over the phone or by text or email. Please share this post and spread the word as despite the fact many of us know this already if the scammer tries it a hundred times and succeeds once it’s one victim too many. If you are 65, you live alone or with a person/s aged over 65 you are entitled to receive a monitored alarm system. But if you have younger people living in the house who are out or if you spend long periods of the day on your own then, because you are spending hours alone you are also entitled to the system provided that you are over 65. The free equipment is provided by Pobal following an application from Abbeyfeale Community Alert, there will be a monitoring fee to be paid from the second year of installation to the installing company of €72. There may be some confusion over the word free – the equipment which costs in the region of €400 is provided free of charge by Pobal as is the first year of monitoring but after that you will be charged by the installing company for the monitoring. I have not included the phone numbers of the committee in this notice but if you want to get a panic button then ring Abbeyfeale Garda Station on 068 30010 and they will contact one of us. Should you not have a landline the installing company Task provide a sim card at a rate of €7.50 per month payable from day one with a deposit of 6 months payable on the day of installation. Then, in year two you will also receive a bill for the monitoring fee so in year one the bill will be €90 and in year two and every other year after it will €162 approx. If you wish you can arrange a direct debit and pay this amount off monthly.
