JOHN SPILLANE COMES TO THE GLÓRACH: All set for a fantastic night of music and song at the Glórach Theatre this Friday, August 16 when John Spillane comes to town. We’ve said all we can about the legendary Cork singer songwriter, so we’ll leave the final word to well know meteorologist Evelyn Cusack. While Evelyn had little in the line of good news regarding settled weather this week, she had this to say about John Spillane: "John Spillane’s song ‘The Cherry Trees’ both moves and motivates me. No matter how sad or challenging a year it’s been, well done to everyone for making it through the long journey around the sun. Well done, John." Tickets can be booked at 0871383940. Plenty of concerts coming up at the Glórach in the following months, with Emma Langford playing at the esteemed venue on Thursday, September 12, and two nights later Leroy Troy and his Hillbilly Trio will be bringing a wonderful flavour of bluegrass music to Abbeyfeale. On Friday, September 20 we will be hosting culture night, with an extravaganza of music, song and dance on the night. Local trad group Fuinneamh were scheduled to make their Glórach debut in September, but that has been changed to Saturday, October group member Maura O’Connor has been asked by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann to play at the Abruzzo Irish Festival (near Rome). The calibre of musicians playing at the Glórach over the next two months is incredible, keep an eye on our facebook page for updates and make sure not to miss any of these memorable nights by booking at 0871383940.

COMMUNITY ALERT: Don’t post holiday pictures on FB until you come back, turn off your location on your smart phone so no one can check if you are out. If something sounds too good to be true then more than likely it is so be careful out there. Never give banking details, pin numbers etc. to anyone, the bank will not ring looking for them and they are the only ones who should look for them. Take care on the roads and make sure that you are visible to other road users so if walking wear a high viz jacket and after dusk carry a torch and if driving turn on your lights if the wipers are on. Lock the doors of your car when you are inside, do not leave a handbag visible on the seat. When you are at home keep the two doors locked so that if someone calls a second person cannot enter the house through the back door while you are occupied at the front door. Once you reach the age of 65 and live alone or with a person/s aged over 65 you are entitled to receive a monitored alarm system. But if you have younger people living in the house who are out for long periods of the day then because you are spending hours alone you are also entitled to the system provided that you are over 65. The free equipment is provided by Pobal following an application from Abbeyfeale Community Alert, there will be a monitoring fee to be paid from the second year of installation to the installing company of €72. Please note that this fee has increased by €6 and is payable in a lump sum each year after year one. Should you not have a landline the installing company Task provide a sim card at a rate of €7.50 per month payable from day one.
