RAILWAY NIGHT AT THE GLÓRACH: While much our energy is taken up with the Abbeyside Player’s production of Second Honeymoon, a few other events are also occurring at the Glórach Theatre. Bingo continues every Monday night at 8.30 pm, and on Monday Week last we celebrated our 21st night by giving away Easter Eggs to our loyal patrons. On Friday, April 13 at 8 pm a talk will be held at the Glórach Theatre, looking at the history of the Great Southern Trail, while the results of the survey and feasibility study for the development of the Greenway will be also unveiled on the night. All are most welcome.

LIMERICK RALLY FOR LIFE: The LoveBoth Project is organising a series of rallies around Ireland over the coming weeks to highlight the tens of thousands of lives saved by the 8th Amendment and encourage people to speak up and stand up for life. The Limerick Pro Life LoveBoth EVENING Rally for families in the Region takes place at the Limerick Race Course on Friday April 6 from 6 – 8.00 pm. Your presence is needed.

GRAND VARIETY CONCERT: West Limerick 102fm are hosting a fundraising concert at the Longcourt Hotel, NCW on Wednesday, April 18 beginning at 8pm. It will feature Peter Burke, P.J. Murrihy, Elle Marie O’Dwyer, Emily Clarke, Willie Relihan, Cllr. Micheal Collins and the wonderful Donal Ring Ceili Band. CHURCH JUBILEE: In June 2018, the parish will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the opening of our parish church, dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption. As a community of faith we have much to celebrate. A special Mass and parish celebration will be take place on Saturday, June 16 marking the official opening of the church fifty years ago in June 1968. A publication on the building of the church and life in the parish over the past fifty years will be launched.

AGM OF ABBEYFEALE COMMUNITY ALERT: Abbeyfeale Community Alert, set up in on January 15, 1998 are celebrating 20 years in existence this year. It is made up of volunteers, all of whom are giving their time voluntarily helping our Community which is at the heart of who we are. HEALTHY HAPPY BABY/TODDLER BONANZA IN ABBEYFEALE LIBRARY: Limerick Children and Young Peoples Services Committee (CYPSC) in collaboration with West Limerick Resources will host a Happy Healthy Baby/Toddler Bonanza in Abbeyfeale Library on April 17 from 11am to 1pm. Mary Rockett will talk at 11am on Self-Care for Parents & Developing Positive Parent/Child Relationships. Talk to be followed by Q & A session. Mary Rockett is a qualified psychotherapist who holds a Master’s Degree in Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy from the University of Limerick. She is also a qualified Parent & Relationship Mentor. Music Generation Limerick will follow with music and movement for toddlers. TRIBUTE SHOW: A Special tribute show to the memory of the late Johnny Barrett will be shown on the big screen in The Charleville Park Hotel, Friday April 13 at 8pm. This is a two hour show with the very best of country and Irish music featuring Johnny playing in dance halls all over Ireland and bringing in the beautiful scenery of different parts of Kerry, Cork Limerick and Clare. The DVD of this show will be launched on the night with proceeds going to erecting a monument which will be unveiled on the 10th anniversary of his death next December in Charleville.

BLESSED SACRAMENT CHAPEL: Adoration will resume after Easter on Tuesday April 3 after the 10 o clock Mass and continue until 10p.m. It will continue then as usual every Tuesday and Friday. New adorers are always very welcome. We thank you all for making our Perpetual Adoration such a success. Because of your commitment to an hour per week we are able to continue this wonderful gift we have in our Parish.

PARKING AT MASS IN ABBEYFEALE: Parking in the church area. Please co-operate with parking regulations. Parking is not allowed where there are double yellow lines. Parking while at Mass on this roadway is causing traffic congestion. Members of the Men’s Shed are volunteering in the Church Yard to assist with parking for a few weeks. Please adhere to their advice and make the best possible use of the church car park. From now you are liable to get a ticket if you park incorrectly. Also keep the centre by the main gate free in case of emergency.

If you try to “rescue” a victim or fight off an abuser, you’ll not only endanger yourself, but the abuser may take out their anger on the victim later. The victim could end up more isolated and less likely to seek help later on” Someone experiencing abuse may seem: Anxious to please their partner, Afraid of their partner, talking about their temper, possessiveness, or jealousy, Restricted from seeing family and friends, Limited in access to money or a car, Depressed, anxious, or suicidal. Follow your instincts. If you’ve noticed these warning signs and expect that someone you know is being abused, don’t wait for them to approach you. Look for a private moment where you can express concern and let them know you’re there to support them. What would you do.ie A new phone scam is doing the rounds – and it’s a bit smarter than some of the others, because it looks like it’s an Irish number at first glance. Though it starts with ‘087’, the calls are actually originating in Bosnia. The latest scam out of Australia features the harvesting of personal data when you return a missed call so we cannot emphasise enough to never ring back a missed call unless you recognise it. Housing Aid for Older People Scheme used to improve the condition of an older person’s home is aimed at people 66 years of age and older and is means tested. People with a disability or who are elderly can apply for a grant to purchase grab rails, a level access shower, access ramps or a stair lift. Contact 061 496000 for further details. Once you reach the age of 65 and live alone or with a person/s aged over 65 you are entitled to receive a monitored alarm system. But if you have younger people living in the house who are out for long periods of the day then because you are spending hours alone you are also entitled to the system provided that you are over 65. The free equipment is provided by Pobal following an application from Abbeyfeale Community Alert, there will be a monitoring fee to be paid from the second year of installation to the installing company and this fee includes insurance against breakages and is currently €80. If you do not want the insurance cover then the fee is €65. If you do not have a land line the company will organise a sim card for a mobile phone for a quarterly fee of approx. €56. This works out cheaper that the rent of a landline which is currently €25 per month. WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES 2018: You can currently only book tickets for the 3 day Congress (1 day or 5 day), but when booking a congress ticket you can register for the free weekend tickets.
