COMMUNITY ALERT: Elderly people are very vulnerable at this time of year with the changeable weather and threat of storms, ice and snow. The local branch of community alert would urge people to be vigilant and keep a close eye on their neighbours, offer to do the shopping, check that they have enough firing inside and call and visit them. Its dark every evening by five and from that to bedtime can feel like a lifetime to people who are confined to their homes. Just a half an hour call a week could mean the world to someone.
